All of us have to stop at times and take a long look in the mirror.
Galatians 6:3-4 "If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else..."
Our measuring stick should be Jesus. How did he serve people and what did he expect?
Ministries are no different. As an entity serving the community, we should often take a long, hard look at what we are doing and examine if we are on mission.
Here at the Bridge, we will be doing that very thing. We will be looking at our policies, each arm of our ministry, and the tools we use. We will be asking these questions:
*Is this method or tool meeting the needs of our participants?
*Is this method or tool using our resources and income as wisely as possible?
*Is this method or tool promoting self-sufficiency or dependency?
*Is this method or tool promoting upward mobility in each area of life....relationships with God, self, and others?
*Is this method or tool encouraging good stewardship of resources and a commitment to flourishing and not poverty mentality?
We ask that you pray with us over the next 6 months. We are getting closer to our goal of a Learning Center where we can teach classes, have group meetings, mentor, and walk alongside women. As we move into the next year, we want to be completely focused on what is God's best for us.
If we need to make changes, we will.
If we need to shed parts of what we do to stay focused on our mission, we will.
If we need to restructure services, we will.
There are many "programs" out there that are inefficient and ineffective. We desire to give God our best and provide what is best for the ladies we serve.
We believe that the Lord's Church has everything we need to combat poverty. POVERTY IS MUCH BROADER THAN JUST MATERIAL POVERTY.
Consider this quote from True Charity's guide to effective charity....
"If poverty were simply a matter of lacking the money to get ahead, then every expansion of government welfare programs should result in a new segment of the poor permanently regaining independence and escaping poverty. Yet even though the government now spends about $16K per poor person, per year, the poverty rate has held roughly constant."
We are determined to do better. And we genuinely want to help these ladies MOVE...."from where they are, to where they need to be!"
Pray with us and we will keep you updated on the changes ahead!
